Community Focused, Always

Strong communities are built one relationship at a time. By helping individuals, families, businesses, and organizations succeed, we help create stronger communities for everyone.

Our Mission

At Somerset Trust Company, we are committed to understanding our customers, our communities, and one another in order not only to meet their banking needs, but to exceed expectations every day.

Community Engagement

Being a community bank means showing up where it matters most—in the lives of our customers and the communities they call home. We support local organizations, causes, and events that help strengthen the places we serve.

  • Paid Volunteer Time

We encourage our employees to be active in the communities they serve. To support that commitment, we provide 40 hours of paid volunteer time to each employee every year, reinforcing the importance of making a meaningful impact that extends beyond the workplace.

  • Financial Education & Outreach

Financial education is an important part of strengthening communities. We provide educational programs and resources for schools, businesses, community groups, and organizations across the markets we serve.

  • Community Events

We enjoy participating in local events and connecting with the communities we serve. You'll often find Somerset Trust at county fairs, festivals, parades, and community celebrations throughout the region.

  • Donations & Sponsorships

We partner with local schools, nonprofits, and community organizations through sponsorships and other forms of support that help strengthen our communities. Together, these partnerships create opportunities, build connections, and contribute to the quality of life in the places we call home.

Our History

For more than 135 years, Somerset Trust has grown alongside the communities we call home. What began as a local bank has evolved into a trusted financial partner guided by the same values, local roots, and commitment to serving customers with honesty and care.

1889: Where Our Story Began

Somerset Trust Company began as First National Bank of Somerset, founded by father and son duo Congressman Edward Scull and George R. Scull. Together, they recognized the need for a hometown bank to serve the financial needs of the local community.

1954: Shaping the Future

In 1954, George Scull Cook took the helm as president of Somerset Trust Company. With one branch, twenty employees, and $8 million in assets, the bank was equipped for growth.

1975: A New Chapter Begins

As a way to accommodate rapid growth, the bank moved to 151 West Main Street, gaining the space it desperately needed. That branch still serves as our main office today.

1987: The Legacy Continues

In 1987, George Henry Cook became President, continuing the family legacy that traces back to the Bank's founding. At that time, the bank had grown to 100 employees, three branches, and $144.6 million in assets.

2019: A Milestone of Growth

Marking 125 years in business, the bank expanded significantly under Henry’s leadership, with 451 employees, 38 branches, and $625 million in assets.

2020-2021: Six Generations Later

In 2020, Sean M. Cook was named Chief Executive Officer, becoming the sixth-generation to lead Somerset Trust Company. In 2021, he was also named President, continuing the family's legacy while guiding the bank to unparalleled success. Today, Somerset Trust continues to serve its communities with nearly 500 employees, 50 branches, and $2.5 billion in assets.
